David Gusakov - Violinist/fiddler David Gusakov is a thirty year veteran of the Vermont Symphony and has also performed as a member of numerous chamber ensembles, including Fiddlesticks!, a trio that has presented programs to thousands of children throughout Vermont. After performing with Pine Island from 1975 to 1979, David played bluegrass with Breakaway, the Mandolinquents and the Midnite Plowboys. David's abilities as a swing /jazz violinist were evident in his work with the trios Swing Shift and Swing King. More recently, David has performed with Patti Casey and Redwing, playing in the folk and Irish fiddling tradition, and has performed and recorded several disks with the Will Patton Ensemble. He has appeared on numerous recordings, including three LPs with Scottish folk singer Jean Redpath, as well as on disks by Gordon Stone, Jon Gailmor, the Woods Tea Company, Phish, Trey Anastasio and many others. Notable appearances include tours to the Soviet Union and England with the Midnite Plowboys, a concert at the Lincoln Center with Jean Redpath, and an appearance on the Prairie Home Companion with Patti Casey. He has performed with or shared billing with such stars as John Denver, Peter Rowan, Smokey Robinson, Roy Orbison, David Bromberg and the Del McCoury Band. Since 1993, David has conducted both the Amateur Musicians' Orchestra (AMO) and the Vermont Youth Strings. He was the violin instructor at Middlebury College from 1982-1984, and currently operates a full teaching studio near his home in Bristol, Vermont, where he lives with wife Anne and sons Nate and Will.
