Although music has been a lifelong passion, Tim is also passionate about the issue of affordable housing, and has made signal contributions in this field through his vision and his tireless enthusiasm. Tim served as Executive Director of the Burlington (Vermont) Community Land Trust (BCLT) from 1984 to 1991, leading the organization's development from initial start-up to its eventual status as one of the nation's most successful community land tl1lsts. He is currently providing technical assistance to both emerging and existing community land tl1lsts throughout the United States.
Tim McKenzie and Jim McGinniss share a long-standing love of fiddle tunes played on the dreadnought guitar. They also share an affinity for the vocal stylings required by certain obscure, sensitive ballads. Tim and Jim graduated from Rice High School (Class of '67) and UVM (Class of '71) and have been musical allies down through the years. They have performed at the Champlain Valley Folk Festival, the Ethan Allen Homestead Festival, the Burlington Coffee House and numerous small venues in the Burlington area as a duo. On those occasions when their schedules permit, they have been known to make appearances at the North Fayston Fireside Lounge. This legendary venue, according to one aficionado, is reputed to be "... the best damn room in the Northeast, very possibly the entire country". Tim finished his first marathon in 2002. Over the past year, Tim's daughter Keller presented him with a grandchild-Erin. Tim's daughter Jaime recently graduated from a nursing program in San Francisco. Hearing Jaime and Tim sing duets is a rare treat.
